Marking the Anniversary of the Martyrdom of three Xaverian Missionaries

On September 30, the Xaverian Missionaries and the whole Church remembers the martyrdom of two Xaverian priests, Frs. Aldo Marchiol, Ottorino Maule, and a Xaverian lay missionary, Catina Gubert.
These Xaverian martyrs were meek and resolute: they didn’t choose their end, but they chose the premises that made their ending unavoidable. They, in fact, lived because of the Gospel, and its Reign… They finally arrived there. Today, they are our companions, and encourage us on the same journey of missionary charity.
Fr. Aldo Marchiol (65 years old), Fr. Ottorino Maule (53) and Ms. Catina Gubert (75) were killed in the mission house with one gunshot in the head each. The three missionaries who had worked many years in Burundi, were ordered to kneel down and then were executed. These missionaries received threats many times by the government army, for speaking on behalf of local people, and for the way army officers reported the killings in Burundi.
