“MAISON DES MARTYRS DE LA FRATERNITÉ DU BURUNDI” – BURUNDI, AFRICA: THE BEGINNING OF SEMINARY LIFE
On Saturday, September 14th, 2024, 33 young people from different Xaverian regions and delegations in Africa officially started their Pre-noviciate year in the community of Xaverian Noviciate and Pre-noviciate of Bujumbura: “Maison des Martyrs de la Fraternité du Burundi” (House of the Martyrs of Fraternity in Burundi). The Eucharistic celebration during which they made their entrance rite into this moment of grace was presided over by Fr Philbert Ntahimpera, the Regional Superior of Burundi, accompanied by the confreres.
In his homily, the Regional Superior exhorted the Pre-novices to fix their eyes on the crucified and glorified Christ since there is neither a “Christless cross” nor a “Crossless Christ.” Furthermore, the face of our community is becoming more intercultural and intergenerational. Among these 33 Pre-novices, 16 are from D.R. Congo, 8 are from Burundi, 3 are from Cameroon, 3 are from Mozambique, 2 are from Sierra Leone, and 1 is from Chad.
During our celebration, we also had the opportunity to say farewell to Fr Leonidas and Fr Emmanuel Bwalande, who are going to start the new community of Propedeutique in Mumuri, in the archdiocese of Gitega, Burundi. (Cassien Nshimirimana s.x.)
