The Death of Father Lucky
Fr. “Lucky” Peterlini, Xaverian Missionary who served in Sierra Leone, West Africa died on the 16th of February.
Father Lucky entered the Xaverian Missionaries in 1948 in Italy and then came to the United States to complete his theology studies before being ordained in 1963.
He acquired a degree in science and taught at our high school seminary. After the closure of the seminary, he worked in encouraging missionary vocations with young people in Wayne, New Jersey. 1974 he left for Sierra Leone, West Africa.
In Sierra Leone his work covered many areas of the life of the Diocese of Makeni. He was a teacher and parochial vicar in Kambia from 75-87, Pastor in Yele from 87-90, head of Catholic Schools in Makeni from 88-2000, Diocesan Administrator from 98- to 2003 and general help in ministry up until 2007. In his last years he suffered terribly from Parkinson’s Disease but continued to assist the Church as well as he could.
