Xaverian Missionary in Indonesia Passes Away Suddenly
Posted On August 7, 2012
On August 1, 2012, Fr. Ottorino Monaci suddenly passed away after 45 years of work in Indonesia. He was 72 years old.
Fr. Monaci was preparing to travel to one of the missionary outstations when he complained of not feeling very well. He was taken to the hospital but later died there of complications to his heart.
He was originally a diocesan priest in Ornavasso, Italy, ordained in 1964. He entered the Xaverian Missionaries and after taking his final vows was sent to Indonesia. He spent the rest of his life there on the Mentawai Islands, particularly in Sipora, Siberut and Sikabaluan.
Let us pray for this dedicated missionary priest who gave his entire life to the people of Indonesia. He will be greatly missed.
